SEXUAL TRAUMA

It’s not always easy to figure out why you are ‘triggered’. Most of us aren't always able to connect our triggers to sexual traumatic experiences.

Sexual Trauma can sometimes look like low self esteem, anxiety, reduced relationship satisfaction, emotional distancing from your partner, panic attacks, low sexual desire, sexual anxiety, and mood swings. All of which are just signals that something is happening. Trauma affects our thoughts, emotions, and bodies. ‘The body keeps a score’.

If you emotionally and physically react or experience anxiety when recalling events from your past, chances are you may be experiencing trauma. Sometimes our sexual desires are affected by a traumatic past — sexual violence, childhood sexual abuse, shame, and unhealthy past relationships.

This is the kind of trauma that does not just go away. It can be a difficult past to heal and get over. It follows you, and shows up as relationship and intimacy anxiety, depression, PTSD and the fear of being touched by that special someone.

At Life Collective Counselling, we take a holistic approach to treat your sexual health —which includes addressing your trauma, anxiety, depression, and all the other things in-between that affect you.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an effective trauma treatment model that helps heal trauma. We know the name sounds intimidating, but it works. EDMR changes how a traumatic event in the past affects you in the present. Our therapist are trauma informed, empathy based, and EMDR trained to work with you towards healing.

Through EMDR counselling and Sex Therapy we can help you address the childhood wounds, sexual abuse and trauma that have left you incapable of finding and keeping love. We are committed to your recovery and trauma resolution.

EMDR can be used to address a wide range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Sexual addiction

  • Sexual assault

  • PTSD

  • Substance abuse and addiction

While we work on your sexual trauma we may also need to address other areas that have impeded you from enjoying life.

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Couple intimacy concerns

  • Toxicity that comes from narcissistic relationship

  • Recover from codependency

  • Sexual desire (low libido)

  • Family dynamics
