PREMARITAL COUNSELLING

Congratulations, you’ve decided to take the big step towards marriage. We know the whole process can be overwhelming— what to expect in marriage, how we make things work for a lifetime, and whether our marriage will fail like our friends, parents, or siblings. Maybe it’s just recommended by your church, parents, or friends to take premarital counselling, and you are unsure what to expect. Well.. we got you!

Premarital counselling sets you up for a fulfilling marriage, by helping you as a couple understand each other more.

It will help you prepare for a healthy marriage filled with understanding and compassion for each other. Premarital counselling is also a type of marriage counselling that helps each individual consider and communicate their thoughts and emotions on topics that often arise in a marriage.

Let’s put it this way; it gives you a window into what married life can look like by learning the potential marriage traits you and your partner bring into this union.

Pre-marital counselling is suggested for all couples before their wedding day, not just couples who feel they are struggling. The idea is to ensure you’re both on the same page before saying, “I do”.

Premarital counselling at Life Collective Counselling involves the use of a program called PREPARE/ENRICH in combination with Emotionally Focused Therapy and/ Gottman Couples Therapy. These are tools and interventions that are used to help couples gain a deeper knowledge of their relationship's strengths and growth points.

Areas that are explored include:

  • Communication

  • Conflict Management

  • Relationship Roles & Expectations

  • Parenting

  • Financial Management

  • Sex and Intimacy

  • Family and Friends

  • Spiritual Beliefs

  • Differences in Partner’s Personalities

  • Lifestyle and Habits

Premarital counselling is short-term (6-10 sessions). During these sessions, we explore relationship strength and growth areas that contribute to and affect your goal of having the kind of marriage you want.

Premarital Counselling is one of the most significant investments in your marriage. And we would like to be a part of that investment.
