DISCERNMENT COUNSELLING

Are you considering a break up, separation, or divorce?

Sometimes things can get so hard, and it feels like you are drowning in your relationship.

Resentment has built up over time, conversation about important things are not happening, as for intimacy .. it hasn’t happened in a long time.

Maybe you and your partner have been struggling with communication issues, trust issues, or simply feeling disconnected from each other. Perhaps one of you is considering leaving the relationship, while the other wants to work things out.

And that’s when there’s that reoccurring thought … should we stay together? Should l stay in this relationship? Are things going to change? What about the kids? Will l ever be able to forgive the betrayal l am feeling?

We understand that deciding whether to continue a relationship can be an overwhelming and stressful experience. Let alone, the idea of losing what you have built together.

That’s where Discernment Counselling comes in…

Whatever the situation may be, discernment counselling can help you navigate through this difficult time and find the best path forward. Our therapist will help you identify the underlying issues that have led to the current situation and explore how each of these paths may play out for you and your partner.

Discernment counselling is a short-term (3-5 sessions) process that helps couples:

  • gain clarity

  • make a thoughtful decision about the future of their relationship

  • be in alignment with their decision and the relationship

During discernment counselling, you will work with one of our experienced therapists to explore three possible paths:

  1. staying in the relationship as it is,

  2. ending the relationship, or

  3. committing to a six-month intensive couples therapy program.

The goal of discernment counselling is not to provide a quick fix or to persuade one partner to make a certain decision. Instead, it's about gaining clarity, understanding, and perspective to make a thoughtful decision that feels right for both partners.

We understand that every couple is unique and that there's no one-size-fits-all solution to relationship issues.

That's why our therapists are trained in a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Gottman Method Couples Therapy, among others.

If you're feeling unsure about the future of your relationship and want to gain clarity and perspective, we encourage you to consider discernment counselling.
